Description

This painting was a bit of a departure from my normal subject matter. It’s part 1 of 2 of a diptych with “Futurist Pompeii.” The painting was inspired by a conversation I had with the very talented photographer Cassie Preston about taking a lighter, funnier approach to my art-making. Part of it is semi-autobiographical and semi Dadaist in nature. There was an inside joke from our conversation that I utilized paintings of anthropomorphic cats with awkwardly humanoid faces. That part is where the nonsensical dadaist humor comes into play. Generally, this was a very light and happy painting, and it was all about exploring things that make life great.

I go into more depth about this painting and it’s companion painting here.
